Redevelopment PDF Print E-mail

The Trustees and Management Committee of the Recreation Ground are embarking on a redevelopment of the facilities to provide the local community with improved facilities - an extended pavillion and flat, well-drained football pitch. In addition to this, new facilities will be built for tennis courts and a multi-purpose all-weather court that we can use for winter training.

The redevelopment is expected to start in 2010, and will result in a new football playing surface for the 2010/11 season. The development has stuttered due to the imposition of requirements by various stakeholders. The football club is going to move to the lower pitch, after this area has been properly drained and levelled. After this has been completed, work can start on the tennis courts at the top of the recretaion ground.

The Trustees and Management Committee of the Recreation Ground are still appealing for donations to help complete this project. Unlike many recreation grounds in the country, Fernhurst Recreation Ground is owned by the village via a trust, not by the local authority. All the members of the Trust and Management Committee, as with the member sports clubs are volunteers, providing their services for the local community. For more information on the redevelopment of the recreation ground, please contact Graham Heath of the Management Committee. For information about the Trust, and to contact us about donations, please contact Joha Allen - chairman of the Trustees.
